This week, Falcon’s Offensive Coordinator Rob Black will be preparing his Fulton skill position players for the Adidas 7on7 Regional Passing Tournament in Knoxville. This regional portion of the Adidas 7on7 Passing Tournament will be held Friday and Saturday, July 18th and 19th, at the University of Tennessee. UT is hosting one of the five Regional Tournament sites. The top two teams from each region will advance to the national championship to be played at Silverback Stadium in Atlanta, Ga. July 30-31.
Host Sites with Regional Representatives:
- Loyola Marymount University (June 14-15): Crenshaw and Upland
(Upland High was led by four-star UT Vol Quarterback commit Josh Nunes)
- University of Notre Dame (June 20-21): Sacred Heart Griffin and Jacksonville
- University of Central Florida (June 28-29): Miami Booker T. Washington and Pahokee
- Texas A&M University (July 10-12): Richland and Mesquite
- University of Tennessee (July 18-19): TBD
More than 200 teams across the nation will compete in the five Regional Adidas 7on7 Football Tournament, which has become a proving ground for young football players and a hot bed for college scouts. The tournament allows skill position players to refine their timing and teamwork before their high school season begins and helps players stay in shape year round through competitive playing and conditioning.
This is the third year that Fulton has participated in the event that is held on the University of Tennessee campus. Last year, the Falcons made it to the semi-finals before being defeated by the Knox Farragut Admirals. The Admirals were defeated by the Oak Ridge Wildcats in the Finals.
In 2006, the Falcons, led by UT Volunteer Sophomore DB/KR Dennis Rogan, went 11-1 during the preliminary contests (twice defeating Florida powerhouse and nationally ranked Belle-Glades Central) before falling in the playoff tournament.
Here is a description of the event:
This faster paced game of football starts all plays on the opponents 40-yard line, leading to a more intense, immediate gridiron experience. Athletes are guaranteed to play in at least four games, and college scouts will be in attendance. Players who might not otherwise get an opportunity to show their skills for college recruiters are getting a new chance, thanks to adidas. Every game is played with licensed football officials, and the tournament features an adidas village which includes demonstrations, Xbox® video games, products, music, skill competitions, a Friday evening cookout, and other activities. Nearly 10,000 players in all are expected to attend this year’s events.
