Fulton Falcons PrepXtra Preseason Football Report
In an article posted on Knoxnews.com on June 26, 2008, a PrepXtra blog writer interviewed Fulton Falcon's Head Coach Buck Coatney and provided an early perspective on the prospects and possibilities for the upcoming season.
Here are some quotes from the report:
"The Fulton High School football team shocked this sports writer, definitely, last fall when it made the Class 3A state championship...Fulton lost six offensive starters and eight on defense to graduation, so if there's to be any repeat trip to Murfreesboro this time, some awfully young Falcons will have to mature - STAT!
Much scrutinized last season for its lack of experience, it will be the cornerstone for Fulton's fall. Only left tackle Gary Gamble will be missing. Back are Mychal Cason (sophomore, RT), Matthew Blasco (senior, RG), Vincent Johnson (6-7, senior, C) and Jarius Johnson (LG, junior).
With past running backs such as Tennessee sophomore Dennis Rogan and Cobb, Coatney said the offensive line hasn't had all the onus of the running game's success. It'll be a different story this time around, opening holes for promising backs such as Marco Golliday (6-0, 175, junior) and Demetrius Thomas (5-10, 175, sophomore).
Sophomore Ben Winters got in a few snaps last season while Blair was hurt. He led Fulton to a win against Tyner by completing eight of 17 passes for three touchdowns, 153 yards and three TDs.
Coatney listed potential skill players such as Bart Satterfield (5-10, 180, sophomore), Antonio Barfield (5-11, 160) and Jemichael Williams (5-10, 175, senior) as replacements for Smith, Tyson and Humphrey. Brandon Taylor had a good spring, according to Coatney.
Fulton begins summer practice July 21. It will participate in the UT passing camp July 18-19."
